About Calcutta International School

Calcutta International School was started by Miss Barth in 1953 as a small institution exclusively for the children of the then-numerous expatriate British community. It changed to its current name in 1971. In 2007, the school moved to a larger campus. Today, under the directorship of Dr. Anuradha Das, the school serves the sons and daughters of expatriates, foreign passport holders, former non-resident Indians, and local children.
The school offers GCSE/IGCSE Ordinary Levels as well as A level curricula. Outside of academics, students of the school participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as sports, elocution and debate, music, photography, rowing, among others. Every year, the students of classes six and above are taken on an excursion to a place within or outside of India. The Duke of Edinburgh award is also offered to students of CIS.
Students of the school also participate in various events outside of school. The school often participates in festivals and competitions held by other schools of the city and nation, as well as holding such events themselves. Among other events, Calcutta International School has sent students to the UN assembly held in New York every year for the last four years.

Message From The Director's Desk

Greetings from Calcutta International School to the students of Brannkyrka Gymnasium! We all look forward to the BRK-CIS exchange programme in the spirit of co-operation, collaboration and camaderie. This cultural, educational, technological interaction between two countries will surely be a fruitful experience in internationalism.

At CIS we follow the UK curriculum of IGCSE and GCE. We offer holistic inclusive and learner-centered education in a multi-cultural context. Our aim is to encourage every child to explore the world and make discoveries.

Wish you all the best for this wonderful programme.
